Independence 2017

Have you ever been hit by Nostalgia? You know that feeling of wanting so much to go back to the past to relive and experience all over again a particular feeling?  Today, being the 43rd independence of my home country Grenada, I was taken right back to that place of parading as a member of the Grenada Girl Guides Association.

I was practically raised in the association; I began when I probably was around nine years old at the St. Andrew's Methodist School, and later went ahead as a girl guide.  When I entered secondary school, I continued as a guider up until my third year where I began being a ranger ( no, not a power ranger).   And of course, when I left school and began teaching, I moved up to a young leader of the association, at which I am at present.

I believe those experiences were one of the greatest ones for me.  The association shaped me to be respectful, to care about the needs of others and to always be helpful as our motto was "lend a hand" and "be prepared."  Preparation was key; a guider had to always be ready to be called on.  Whether it was a large task or a small one - preparation was important.

As I am out of my home island, I have never longed so much to be a part of the military parades to march to the sound of "Oh Grenada, land of my birth".  When I heard it being played today, I began bussing a little dance and moving my hips to the sound of Uncle Eddie.  I love that song; those were fun days!  Take me back!😩😩😩

But even in my third year of missing out on all the action in Grenada for independence, I join with everyone from all around the world to wish Grenadians a Happy 43rd year as an independent nation.  We have come far and we must only look back to remember where and how far we've come from. We must keep pressing forward unto greatness.

Keep holding strong Grenada! I love my island bad bad bad😍

If you're not in Grenada like me, or you're home but you didn't get a chance to catch a glimpse of the 2017 Military Parade, I've attached a link below.  Special thanks to Grenada Sports for making this video available for home sick Grenadian like me!  Stay blessed guys😘❤️
