Poetic Throwback

Here's to a memorable throwback...

I saw your dad today.
He walked to the bus stop in Vendome from the little byway.
I saw your dad today
And when he opened the door, I stared at him; I couldn't look away.
I saw him.
He wore his cap on his head, just the way he used to.
He wore a green striped shirt,  identical to his white and blue.
I still have the picture where he stood between our mothers like a bodyguard
And how he spoke little but schooled you hard.
I saw your dad today and I looked at him from head to toe
He was tall, so tall he had to curve somewhat into a ball to get through the door.
He sat in the seat ahead of me
I had to control myself to not start wailing like a banshee.
I saw your dad today.
He fixed his glasses and said hello
I composed myself, greeted him back and my tears, I forgo.
I saw your dad
and then I missed him
Then that made me miss you
Picked up the phone to tell you he sat in front of me
Then I realised I was screwed
When I remembered we're through
I saw your dad
And he glanced, then smiled at me
Nothing about him changed and if you were there, you would agree.
I saw your dad
But I quickly looked away
Since I couldn't bring myself to letting him see where we are today.
I saw your dad
Before I got the clue
That it was just another day, reliving old ones and making new memories without you.
